Whom We Serve
Whom Dr. Kaplan-Naim Evaluates
Dr. Kaplan-Naim's private practice is primarily focused on:
Scope of Practice
Areas of Evaluation
Evaluations may address concerns involving:
The specific areas assessed are determined by the individual's history, current concerns, prior documentation, and the requirements of the school, program, or testing organization.
The Assessment
What a Comprehensive Evaluation May Include
Depending on the purpose of the evaluation and the individual's needs, the process may include:
Not every individual requires the same measures. Dr. Kaplan-Naim selects each evaluation based on the referral questions and documentation requirements.
Step by Step
The Evaluation Process
Initial Consultation
The process begins with a confidential conversation regarding history, concerns, goals, and requested accommodations or documentation. Dr. Kaplan-Naim explains the evaluation process and identifies records needed for review.
Review of Records
Previous evaluations, educational records, accommodation histories, medical documentation, standardized-testing records, and other relevant materials are carefully reviewed to establish a complete understanding of the individual's history.
Individualized Assessment
Testing is conducted individually in a comfortable professional setting. Assessment measures are selected specifically for each individual and may be completed over multiple appointments when appropriate.
Clinical Integration
Assessment findings are interpreted together with historical information, records, behavioral observations, and real-world functioning to develop meaningful clinical conclusions and recommendations.
Feedback and Written Report
Following the evaluation, findings are explained clearly and a comprehensive written report is provided that includes history, assessment results, diagnoses when appropriate, functional limitations, and individualized recommendations.
Accommodations
Documentation for Accommodations
When accommodations are clinically supported, the written report explains the relationship between the documented condition, functional limitations, and the accommodations being recommended.
Recommendations may include:
All recommendations are based on the evaluation findings and documented needs. Final accommodation decisions are made by the school, academic program, or testing organization reviewing the request.
Evaluations of Younger Students
Although Dr. Kaplan-Naim's private practice primarily focuses on high school students, college and graduate students, and adults, evaluations of younger students may be available on a limited basis.
Because Dr. Kaplan-Naim continues to serve as a psychologist with the New York City Public Schools, she does not privately evaluate students who are currently enrolled in New York City public schools.
Younger students attending private, parochial, or independent schools outside the New York City public-school system may be considered when the requested evaluation falls within the scope of her private practice.
